Rituals & Trails

An elevated sense of escape.
Araiya Amaraya does not hand you an itinerary. What it offers instead is the mountains — and a quiet curation of experiences designed to bring you closer to them. Nestled in the Kumaon hills, one of the most sought-after settings for a yoga retreat in Uttarakhand, Amaraya invites guests to disconnect from noise and reconnect with something more essential.

Morning yoga sessions are practised outdoors, where the Himalayan peaks form the natural backdrop and the air is cool and still. Sound healing follows the rhythm of the valley, not a timetable. These are not wellness add-ons — they are woven into the fabric of a stay here, making Amaraya one of the finest settings for a yoga retreat in Uttarakhand that also offers the comforts of a luxury resort in Kumaon.

Kainchi Dham - Shri Neeb Karori Baba Ashram

Some places change the way you see the world. Kainchi Dham is one of them.

In 1974, a nineteen-year-old Steve Jobs made his way to the Kumaon hills in search of something he could not name. He found it at the ashram of Neem Karoli Baba — a sacred site tucked into a verdant gorge, with a river flowing below and a stillness that felt untouched by time. He later described the experience as one of the most profound of his life.

Years later, Mark Zuckerberg made the same journey on Jobs’ recommendation. Actress Julia Roberts came too, and quietly so did many others — seekers, artists, entrepreneurs, and ordinary travellers who had heard that something extraordinary awaited in this small, unhurried ashram at Kainchi Dham.

What continues to draw people from around the world is not easy to explain. The ashram remains much as it always has — simple, open, and saturated with a quality of peace that many visitors describe as unlike anything they have experienced elsewhere. It is one of the most remarkable spiritual destinations in northern India — and it sits just 45 minutes from Araiya Amaraya. After darshan, guests return to the quiet of the Kumaon hills and find, perhaps, that the stillness has followed them home.
